George Anson
George Anson was a British naval officer and explorer born in 1697. He is best known for his circumnavigation of the globe from 1740 to 1744, during which he commanded the ship HMS Centurion. Anson's voyage was significant for its contributions to maritime exploration and for the wealth it brought back to Britain through captured Spanish treasure ships.
In addition to his explorations, Anson served as the First Lord of the Admiralty and played a key role in naval reforms. His experiences and writings, particularly in the book A Voyage Round the World, provided valuable insights into naval warfare and navigation during the 18th century.
