Geneva Accords
The Geneva Accords refer to a series of agreements made in 1954 aimed at resolving conflicts in Indochina, particularly concerning Vietnam. The accords resulted from the Geneva Conference, which sought to address the issues arising from the First Indochina War between the French colonial forces and the Viet Minh, led by Ho Chi Minh.
The agreements divided Vietnam at the 17th parallel, creating North Vietnam and South Vietnam. While the accords called for elections to unify the country, these elections never took place, leading to further conflict and the eventual escalation of the Vietnam War.
