Genetic Selection
Genetic selection is a process used in breeding to enhance desirable traits in organisms, such as plants or animals. This method involves choosing specific individuals with preferred characteristics to reproduce, thereby passing those traits to the next generation. It can be applied in agriculture to improve crop yields or in livestock to enhance growth rates and disease resistance.
There are two main types of genetic selection: natural selection and artificial selection. Natural selection occurs naturally in the wild, where organisms best suited to their environment survive and reproduce. In contrast, artificial selection is driven by human intervention, where breeders select traits based on human preferences or needs.
