Generation VII of Pokémon includes the games released for the Nintendo 3DS, starting with Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon in 2016. This generation introduced the Alola region, which is inspired by the Hawaiian Islands, featuring new environments, Pokémon, and gameplay mechanics. In addition to new Pokémon, Generation VII also brought changes to the battle system, such as the removal of traditional Gym battles and the introduction of Island Trials. This generation also introduced new forms for existing Pokémon, known as Alolan Forms, which reflect the unique environment of the Alola region.
