Generation VI
Generation VI of Pokémon refers to the sixth series of games in the Pokémon franchise, introduced in 2013 with the release of Pokémon X and Pokémon Y. This generation marked the transition to 3D graphics, enhancing the visual experience of the games. It also introduced new gameplay mechanics, such as Mega Evolution, allowing certain Pokémon to temporarily evolve into more powerful forms during battles.
In addition to new gameplay features, Generation VI introduced 72 new Pokémon, expanding the total number to 721. The games are set in the Kalos region, inspired by northern France, and emphasized themes of beauty and fashion. The introduction of Fairy-type Pokémon also added a new dynamic to battles, providing a counter to the dominant Dragon-type Pokémon.
