General Philip Sheridan
General Philip Sheridan was a prominent Union general during the American Civil War. Born on March 6, 1831, in Albany, New York, he graduated from the United States Military Academy in 1853. Sheridan is best known for his aggressive tactics and effective cavalry operations, particularly during the Battle of Shenandoah in 1864, where he played a crucial role in defeating Confederate forces.
After the Civil War, Sheridan continued his military career, serving as the commander of the Division of the Missouri and later as the commander of the U.S. Army. He was instrumental in the Indian Wars and advocated for the protection of the western frontier. Sheridan passed away on August 5, 1888.
