General Lighthouse Authority
The General Lighthouse Authority (GLA) is a UK organization responsible for the management and operation of lighthouses and other navigational aids. It ensures the safety of maritime navigation by providing essential services such as lighthouse maintenance, buoy placement, and the operation of radar and communication systems. The GLA works closely with various maritime organizations to enhance safety at sea.
The GLA is made up of three individual lighthouse authorities: Trinity House, Northern Lighthouse Board, and Irish Lights. Each authority oversees specific geographic areas, ensuring that all coastal regions in the UK and Ireland are well-equipped with reliable navigational aids.
