Gavial
The Gavial, also known as the gharial, is a unique species of crocodilian found primarily in the rivers of the Indian subcontinent. It is easily recognizable by its long, slender snout, which is adapted for catching fish, its main diet. Gavials can grow up to 20 feet long, making them one of the largest crocodilians, but they are not a threat to humans.
These reptiles prefer freshwater habitats, such as rivers and lakes, where they can bask on riverbanks and hunt for fish. The Gavial is currently listed as critically endangered due to habitat loss, pollution, and hunting, making conservation efforts essential for its survival.
