Gastrointestinal System
The gastrointestinal system, also known as the digestive system, is responsible for breaking down food, absorbing nutrients, and eliminating waste. It includes organs such as the mouth, esophagus, stomach, small intestine, and large intestine. Each part plays a specific role in the digestion process, starting from the intake of food to the final excretion of waste.
The system begins with the mouth, where food is chewed and mixed with saliva. It then travels down the esophagus to the stomach, where it is further digested. Nutrients are absorbed primarily in the small intestine, while the large intestine absorbs water and forms waste for elimination.
