Gaspard Monge
Gaspard Monge was a French mathematician born on May 9, 1746, in Beaune, France. He is best known for his contributions to the field of geometry, particularly for developing the concept of descriptive geometry, which allows for the representation of three-dimensional objects in two dimensions. Monge's work laid the foundation for various applications in engineering and architecture.
In addition to his mathematical achievements, Monge played a significant role in education and was a founding member of the École Polytechnique, a prestigious engineering school in France. He served as a professor and helped shape the curriculum, influencing future generations of mathematicians and engineers. Monge passed away on July 28, 1818.
