Gas Works
Gas Works are facilities that produce gas, primarily for heating and lighting. Historically, they converted coal into gas through a process called gasification. This gas, known as coal gas or town gas, was widely used before the advent of natural gas and electricity.
In modern times, many Gas Works have been decommissioned or repurposed. Some have been transformed into parks or cultural sites, while others remain as industrial heritage sites. The transition to cleaner energy sources has reduced the reliance on gas produced from coal, leading to a decline in traditional Gas Works operations.
