Gars
Gars are a group of freshwater fish belonging to the family Lepisosteidae. They are characterized by their elongated bodies, long snouts filled with sharp teeth, and armored scales. Gars are primarily found in North America, Central America, and parts of the Caribbean, inhabiting slow-moving waters like rivers, lakes, and swamps.
These fish are known for their unique ability to breathe air, thanks to a specialized swim bladder that functions like a lung. Gars are carnivorous and primarily feed on smaller fish and invertebrates. Their ancient lineage dates back over 150 million years, making them one of the oldest surviving fish families, often compared to dinosaurs.
