Garip movement
The Garip movement was a literary and artistic movement in Turkey that emerged in the 1940s. It was founded by poets Orhan Veli Kanık, Melih Cevdet Anday, and Oktay Rifat. The movement aimed to break away from traditional forms of poetry and embrace a more modern, everyday language, focusing on the experiences of ordinary people.
The Garip poets rejected the ornate style of previous Turkish poetry, favoring simplicity and accessibility. They often used humor and irony in their works, reflecting the realities of life in Turkey. This movement significantly influenced Turkish literature, paving the way for future generations of writers and poets.
