Gallian Mythology
Gallian Mythology refers to the collection of myths and legends originating from the ancient Gauls, a Celtic people who inhabited what is now France and parts of Belgium, Switzerland, and Italy. This mythology is characterized by a rich tapestry of gods, goddesses, and supernatural beings, often linked to nature, fertility, and warfare. Key figures include Cernunnos, the horned god of fertility and animals, and Epona, the goddess of horses.
The myths often served to explain natural phenomena and human experiences, reflecting the values and beliefs of the Gallic tribes. Many stories were passed down orally, emphasizing the importance of community and tradition. With the Roman conquest, much of Gallian mythology was absorbed into Roman mythology, leading to a blending of cultural narratives.
