Frontotemporal Lobar Degeneration
Frontotemporal Lobar Degeneration (FTLD) is a group of brain disorders caused by the progressive degeneration of the frontal and temporal lobes. These areas of the brain are responsible for personality, behavior, and language. Symptoms can include changes in social behavior, difficulty with language, and emotional disturbances.
FTLD is often misdiagnosed as Alzheimer's disease or other forms of dementia. It typically affects younger individuals, usually between the ages of 40 and 65. There are several subtypes of FTLD, each with distinct symptoms and progression patterns, making early diagnosis challenging.
