French seams
French seams are a sewing technique used to create a clean and finished edge on fabric. This method encloses the raw edges of the fabric, preventing fraying and giving a polished look to garments. It is particularly useful for lightweight or delicate fabrics, where traditional seams might not provide enough support.
To create a French seam, you start by sewing the fabric pieces together with the wrong sides facing each other. After trimming the seam allowance, you then fold the fabric so the right sides are together and sew again, encasing the raw edges. This results in a neat and durable seam.
