Frederick Stanley
Frederick Stanley, also known as Lord Stanley of Preston, was a British politician and the Governor General of Canada from 1888 to 1893. He is best known for donating the Stanley Cup, a trophy awarded annually to the champion of the National Hockey League (NHL). His contribution to hockey has made him a significant figure in the sport's history.
Born on January 15, 1841, in England, Stanley came from a prominent family and served in various political roles throughout his career.
