Frederick Arthur Stanley
Frederick Arthur Stanley, 16th Earl of Derby, was a British politician and sportsman born on January 15, 1841. He served as the Governor General of Canada from 1888 to 1893, where he played a significant role in promoting Canadian unity and development. He was also a member of the House of Lords and held various political positions throughout his career.
Stanley is perhaps best known for donating the Stanley Cup, a trophy awarded annually to the champion of the National Hockey League (NHL). His contribution to hockey has made the Stanley Cup one of the most prestigious trophies in professional sports. He passed away on June 14, 1908.
