François-André Danican Philidor
François-André Danican Philidor (1726-1795) was a prominent French chess player, composer, and music theorist. He is best known for his contributions to chess strategy and for writing the influential book, L'Analyse des échecs, which laid the groundwork for modern chess theory. Philidor's approach emphasized the importance of pawn structure and piece coordination.
