Fractional Notation
Fractional notation is a way to represent numbers that are not whole, using two integers: a numerator and a denominator. The numerator, located above the line, indicates how many parts we have, while the denominator, below the line, shows how many equal parts make up a whole. For example, in the fraction 3/4, the number 3 represents three parts, and 4 indicates that these parts are out of a total of four equal sections.
This notation is commonly used in mathematics, cooking, and measurements. It allows for precise communication of quantities that are less than one, such as 1/2 a cup of sugar or 2/3 of a pizza. Understanding fractional notation is essential for performing calculations involving division and ratios.
