Fort Watauga
Fort Watauga was a frontier fort built in the 18th century, located in what is now Tennessee. Constructed by early settlers, it served as a protective structure against Native American attacks during the French and Indian War. The fort played a crucial role in the settlement of the region and provided a safe haven for families.
The fort was named after the nearby Watauga River and was part of the Watauga Association, one of the first attempts at self-governance in the American frontier. Today, a replica of Fort Watauga stands at the original site, serving as a historical site and educational resource.
