Fort Crawford
Fort Crawford was a military outpost established in the early 19th century, located in what is now Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin. Built in 1816, it served as a strategic point for the United States Army during the conflicts with Native American tribes and played a role in the westward expansion of the United States.
The fort was named after William H. Crawford, a prominent politician and Secretary of War. It was abandoned in 1856, but its historical significance remains, as it contributed to the development of military and civilian life in the region. Today, remnants of the fort can be explored at the Fort Crawford Museum.
