Forastero
Forastero is a type of cacao bean known for its hardiness and high yield. It is primarily grown in regions of West Africa, South America, and Southeast Asia. Forastero beans are often used in mass-produced chocolate due to their strong, robust flavor and lower cost compared to other cacao varieties.
This cacao variety accounts for about 80% of the world's cacao production. While it lacks the complex flavors of Criollo beans, Forastero is valued for its resistance to disease and adaptability to different growing conditions, making it a staple in the chocolate industry.
