Football League One
Football League One is the third tier of professional football in England, sitting below the EFL Championship and above EFL League Two. It was established in 2004, replacing the old Third Division, and is part of the English Football League (EFL). The league consists of 24 teams that compete for promotion to the Championship and to avoid relegation to League Two.
Each season, teams play 46 matches, facing each opponent twice, once at home and once away. Points are awarded based on match results, with three points for a win, one for a draw, and none for a loss. The top two teams at the end of the season earn automatic promotion, while the teams finishing from third to sixth enter the playoffs for the final promotion spot.
