Fon people
The Fon people are an ethnic group primarily located in southern Benin, particularly in the region of Dahomey. They are known for their rich cultural heritage, which includes traditional music, dance, and art. The Fon language, also called Fon, is widely spoken among the community and is part of the larger Gbe language family.
Historically, the Fon people were influential in the formation of the Dahomey Kingdom, which existed from the 17th to the 19th century. They have a strong belief system that includes elements of Vodun, a religion that emphasizes the worship of spirits and ancestors. Today, the Fon continue to celebrate their traditions while adapting to modern influences.
