Foehn
A Foehn is a warm, dry wind that occurs on the leeward side of mountain ranges. It forms when moist air rises over the mountains, cools, and loses moisture as precipitation. As the air descends on the other side, it warms up, leading to a noticeable increase in temperature and a decrease in humidity.
Foehn winds are common in various regions, including the Alps in Europe and the Rocky Mountains in North America. They can significantly impact local weather, causing rapid snowmelt and influencing ecosystems. These winds are also known for their potential to create strong gusts and contribute to fire risks in dry areas.
