Foals
Foals are young horses, typically defined as being less than one year old. They are born after a gestation period of about 11 months and are usually able to stand and walk shortly after birth. Foals are dependent on their mothers, known as mares, for nutrition and protection during their early months.
As they grow, foals undergo significant physical and behavioral changes. They begin to graze on grass and other forage while still nursing. By the time they reach six months, they are often weaned from their mothers. Proper care and socialization are essential for their development into healthy adult horses, known as stallions or mares.
