Flexor Digitorum Longus
The Flexor Digitorum Longus is a muscle located in the posterior compartment of the leg. It is responsible for flexing the second, third, fourth, and fifth toes. This muscle originates from the tibia and runs down the leg, passing behind the medial malleolus, before splitting into four tendons that attach to the distal phalanges of the toes.
This muscle plays a crucial role in activities such as walking, running, and maintaining balance. It works in conjunction with other muscles, including the Flexor Hallucis Longus and the Tibialis Posterior, to facilitate movement and stability of the foot.
