Flemish independence
Flemish independence refers to the movement advocating for the autonomy or complete independence of the Flemish Region in Belgium. This region, primarily Dutch-speaking, has a distinct cultural identity and has sought greater political power and recognition within the federal structure of Belgium, which also includes the Walloon Region and the Brussels-Capital Region.
The push for Flemish independence has historical roots, stemming from linguistic and economic disparities between the Flemish and Walloon communities. Supporters argue that greater self-governance would allow Flanders to better address its unique needs and aspirations, while critics fear it could lead to increased division within the country.
