Fitzpatrick's Algorithm
Fitzpatrick's Algorithm is a method used to assess skin types based on their response to sun exposure. Developed by Dr. Thomas Fitzpatrick in 1975, it categorizes skin into six types, ranging from Type I (very fair skin that always burns) to Type VI (deeply pigmented skin that never burns). This classification helps in determining the risk of skin damage and guides appropriate sun protection measures.
The algorithm considers factors such as skin color, hair color, eye color, and the tendency to tan or burn. By understanding these characteristics, individuals can make informed decisions about sun safety and skincare, reducing the risk of skin cancer and other sun-related issues.
