Firefighting History
The history of firefighting dates back to ancient civilizations, where early methods included using buckets and primitive tools to combat flames. The first organized firefighting force is believed to have been established in Rome around 24 B.C. by Emperor Augustus, who created a group called the "Vigiles" to patrol the city and extinguish fires.
In the Middle Ages, firefighting evolved with the introduction of fire engines and the formation of guilds in Europe. The Great Fire of London in 1666 prompted improvements in fire safety regulations and the establishment of professional firefighting services, leading to the modern firefighting techniques and equipment we use today.
