Fire Island Lighthouse
The Fire Island Lighthouse is a historic lighthouse located on Fire Island, New York. Built in 1858, it stands at 168 feet tall and is one of the tallest lighthouses in the United States. The lighthouse was designed to guide ships safely through the waters of the Atlantic Ocean and has been a vital navigation aid for over a century.
In 2000, the lighthouse was restored and is now part of the Fire Island National Seashore. Visitors can climb the 182 steps to the top for stunning views of the surrounding area. The lighthouse is also a popular site for educational programs about maritime history and coastal ecology.
