Fiji Hindi
Fiji Hindi is a variant of the Hindi language spoken primarily in Fiji. It developed among the Indo-Fijian community, which consists of descendants of Indian laborers brought to the islands in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. While it shares roots with standard Hindi, Fiji Hindi incorporates elements from Fijian, English, and other local languages, making it unique.
This language serves as a vital part of the cultural identity for many Indo-Fijians. It is used in everyday conversation, music, and local media, reflecting the community's history and experiences in Fiji. Despite its distinctiveness, Fiji Hindi remains mutually intelligible with standard Hindi.
