Fibularis Muscles
The fibularis muscles, also known as the peroneal muscles, are a group of three muscles located on the lateral side of the lower leg. These muscles include the fibularis longus, fibularis brevis, and fibularis tertius. They play a crucial role in foot movement, particularly in eversion, which is the action of turning the sole of the foot outward.
In addition to eversion, the fibularis muscles assist in stabilizing the ankle and supporting the arch of the foot. They are innervated by the superficial fibular nerve and are important for activities such as walking, running, and maintaining balance.
