Festa de Iemanjá
The Festa de Iemanjá is an annual celebration held on February 2nd in honor of Iemanjá, the Afro-Brazilian goddess of the sea. This festival is particularly popular in cities like Salvador and Rio de Janeiro, where thousands of people gather to pay tribute to her. Participants often dress in white and offer flowers, gifts, and other offerings to the goddess, hoping for her blessings.
During the festival, vibrant processions take place, featuring music, dance, and traditional rituals. Many attendees also set small boats afloat with their offerings, symbolizing their hopes and wishes. The event is a significant cultural expression of Candomblé and Umbanda, two Afro-Brazilian religions that honor Iemanjá.
