Ferguson Rifle
The Ferguson Rifle is a type of breech-loading rifle designed by British officer Patrick Ferguson in the late 18th century. It was notable for its innovative design, allowing soldiers to load the weapon from the rear, which significantly increased the rate of fire compared to traditional muzzle-loading rifles. The rifle featured a rifled barrel, improving accuracy over longer distances.
Introduced during the American Revolutionary War, the Ferguson Rifle was used by specialized troops known as Ferguson’s Riflemen. Despite its advanced features, the rifle was produced in limited numbers and was eventually overshadowed by other firearms. Its design, however, influenced future developments in military rifles.
