Fasciola
Fasciola, commonly known as the liver fluke, is a type of parasitic flatworm that primarily infects the livers of various animals, including cattle and sheep. These parasites thrive in freshwater environments, where they can be found in snails, their intermediate hosts. When animals consume contaminated water or plants, the flukes enter their bodies and can cause significant health issues, including liver damage and digestive problems.
In humans, Fasciola infection, known as fascioliasis, can occur through the consumption of contaminated water or food. Symptoms may include abdominal pain, fever, and jaundice. Preventing fascioliasis involves improving sanitation and ensuring that water sources are clean, which is crucial for both animal and human health.
