False Ribs
False ribs are a group of ribs in the human body that do not attach directly to the sternum (breastbone). Instead, they connect to the costal cartilage of the ribs above them. There are three pairs of false ribs, specifically the 8th, 9th, and 10th ribs, which provide some flexibility and protection to the thoracic cavity.
Unlike true ribs, which are directly connected to the sternum, false ribs allow for a greater range of motion in the chest area. This flexibility is important for breathing and other movements, as it helps accommodate the expansion and contraction of the lungs during respiration.
