Falkland Islands War
The Falkland Islands War was a conflict between Argentina and the United Kingdom that took place in 1982. The war began when Argentina invaded the Falkland Islands, a British overseas territory, claiming sovereignty over the islands. The UK responded by sending a naval task force to reclaim the territory, leading to a two-month military engagement.
The conflict resulted in the deaths of 649 Argentine military personnel, 255 British service members, and three civilians. The war ended with the surrender of Argentine forces on June 14, 1982, and the UK reestablished control over the Falkland Islands. The war had lasting political and social impacts in both countries.
