Falaise Pocket
The Falaise Pocket was a significant military engagement during World War II, occurring in August 1944. It involved the encirclement of German forces by the Allied troops, primarily from the United States, United Kingdom, and Canada, as they advanced through Normandy, France. The operation aimed to trap and destroy the German 7th Army and parts of the 5th Panzer Army.
The battle culminated in the encirclement of approximately 50,000 German soldiers in a pocket around the town of Falaise. Despite fierce fighting, many German troops managed to escape, but the operation severely weakened their capabilities on the Western Front, contributing to the Allied advance into Germany.
