F-14 Tomcat
The F-14 Tomcat is a supersonic, twin-engine fighter aircraft developed by Grumman for the United States Navy. It is known for its variable-sweep wing design, which allows it to adapt to different flight conditions, enhancing its performance in both air-to-air and air-to-ground missions. The F-14 was primarily used for fleet defense and air superiority.
Introduced in the 1970s, the F-14 played a significant role in various military operations and was featured in popular culture, notably in the movie Top Gun. It was retired from U.S. Navy service in 2006, replaced by the F/A-18 Super Hornet.
