Fête Ghede
Fête Ghede is a vibrant celebration in Haitian Vodou that honors the spirits known as the Ghede. These spirits are associated with death, fertility, and the afterlife, often represented by the figure of Baron Samedi, the most famous Ghede spirit. The festival typically takes place on November 1st and 2nd, coinciding with the Catholic observance of All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day.
During Fête Ghede, participants engage in lively rituals, including music, dance, and offerings of food and drink. People dress in colorful attire, often adorned with symbols of death, such as skulls and bones. The celebration serves as a way to connect with ancestors and celebrate life, death, and the cycle of existence.
