Fête Gede
Fête Gede is a vibrant celebration in Haiti that honors the spirits of the dead, particularly the Vodou spirits known as Gede. This festival typically takes place on November 1st and 2nd, coinciding with the Catholic observance of All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day. Participants engage in rituals, music, and dance, often wearing black and purple to symbolize mourning and respect for the deceased.
During Fête Gede, people visit cemeteries to pay homage to their ancestors, bringing offerings such as food, rum, and flowers. The celebration is marked by lively gatherings, where the community comes together to remember and celebrate life, death, and the connection between the living and the dead.
