Ezo brown bear
The Ezo brown bear, also known as the Ursus arctos yesoensis, is a subspecies of the brown bear found primarily on the northern Japanese island of Hokkaido. These bears are known for their large size, with males weighing between 300 to 600 pounds. They have a thick, dark brown fur coat that helps them adapt to the cold climate of their habitat.
Ezo brown bears primarily feed on a diet of berries, fish, and small mammals. They are typically solitary animals, except during mating season or when a mother is raising her cubs. Conservation efforts are in place to protect their habitat and ensure their survival, as they face threats from habitat loss and human activities.
