Eyak
The Eyak people are an Indigenous group from the region of south-central Alaska, particularly around the Copper River Delta. They traditionally relied on fishing, hunting, and gathering for their subsistence, with salmon being a crucial part of their diet. The Eyak language, which is part of the Na-Dené language family, was historically spoken by the Eyak people.
In the late 20th century, the number of fluent Eyak speakers declined significantly, leading to concerns about the language's extinction. Efforts have been made to revitalize the language and culture, including educational programs and community initiatives aimed at preserving Eyak heritage for future generations.
