Extrinsic Muscles
Extrinsic muscles are a group of muscles located outside a specific organ or structure, primarily responsible for movement and support. In the context of the eye, for example, the extrinsic muscles control its movement, allowing for actions like looking up, down, and side to side. These muscles are attached to the outer surface of the eyeball and connect to the skull.
In addition to the eye, extrinsic muscles can be found in other parts of the body, such as the hand and foot. They play a crucial role in facilitating complex movements by working in conjunction with intrinsic muscles, which are located within the organ itself.
