Extreme Environments
Extreme environments are locations on Earth that experience harsh conditions, such as extreme temperatures, high pressure, or lack of oxygen. Examples include the Antarctic, where temperatures can drop below -60°C, and the Deep Ocean, which has crushing pressures and complete darkness. These environments challenge the survival of living organisms and require specialized adaptations.
In addition to natural extreme environments, human-made settings like space and nuclear reactors also present extreme conditions. In space, astronauts face vacuum and radiation, while nuclear reactors operate under high temperatures and radiation levels. Studying these environments helps scientists understand life’s limits and develop technologies for exploration.
