Exfoliant
An exfoliant is a skincare product designed to remove dead skin cells from the surface of the skin. This process helps to improve skin texture, promote cell turnover, and enhance the absorption of other skincare products. Exfoliants can be physical, containing small particles that scrub the skin, or chemical, using acids like alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) or beta hydroxy acids (BHAs) to dissolve dead skin.
Regular exfoliation can lead to a brighter complexion and may help prevent clogged pores, which can reduce the occurrence of acne. However, it is important to use exfoliants appropriately, as over-exfoliation can irritate the skin and disrupt its natural barrier.
