European brown hare
The European brown hare, scientifically known as Lepus europaeus, is a species of hare native to Europe and parts of Asia. It is characterized by its long ears, powerful hind legs, and a distinctive brownish coat that helps it blend into its surroundings. These hares are primarily nocturnal and are known for their speed, capable of running up to 45 miles per hour to escape predators.
European brown hares inhabit a variety of environments, including grasslands, farmlands, and open woodlands. They are herbivorous, feeding on grasses, herbs, and crops. Breeding typically occurs in the spring, with females giving birth to litters of leverets, which are born fully furred and able to hop shortly after birth.
