European Polecat
The European Polecat (Mustela putorius) is a small carnivorous mammal belonging to the weasel family. It has a slender body, short legs, and a bushy tail, typically measuring about 50 to 70 centimeters in length. Its fur is usually dark brown with lighter underparts, and it has distinctive facial markings. The species is primarily nocturnal and is known for its agility and curiosity.
European polecats inhabit a variety of environments, including forests, grasslands, and wetlands across Europe. They are skilled hunters, preying on small mammals, birds, and insects. Although they were once heavily hunted for their fur, their populations have stabilized in many areas due to conservation efforts.
